More Than 18 Lakh Cases Pending in Courts across Odisha, Says Law Minister

Bhubaneswar: More than 18 lakh cases are pending for trail at various courts across Odisha, said Law Minister Jagannath Saraka on Saturday.

Replying to a question by BJD MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, the Law Minister informed the Assembly that 18,79,226 cases are pending for trial at various lower courts and in Orissa High Court (HC).

Of the pending cases, 1,28,019 are more than 15 year old, he said.

The Minister further stated that with the approval of High Court, the State Government is taking necessary steps to set up of Civil Judge (Jr. Div.)-cum-JMFC Court in each block in phases and to increase the number of judges in the courts across the state for timely adjudication of cases.
