Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday launched LAccMI Bus Yojana in Koraput district.
Under the scheme, women, students and people with disabilities can travel from village to block for just Rs 5. As many as 63 buses will connect 234 Panchayats of Koraput district benefiting to more than 13 lakh people.
Addressing the people of Koraput district on the occasion of the launch of this scheme, the Chief Minister said that the first phase of the LAccMI bus service started from Malkangiri and reached Koraput today.
In the first phase, the bus service covered the six districts, such as Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Gajapati and Koraput. 1131 Panchayats of these six districts have now LAccMI bus facility benefiting to more than 63 lakh people.
The Chief Minister said that daily hassles for transport would be removed and people would be able to get the facility of commuting at low cost. This scheme has been started after knowing about the transportation problems of the people after the visit of the CMO.
LAccMI Bus will work to connect everyone. It will take children to school and college, patient to the hospital and connect farmers to markets. It is a blessing for everyone. The LAccMI Bus service has made the light of development even brighter, the CM added.
Participating in the programme, 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman VK Pandian said that the buses of LAccMI Yojana have been bought with the money of the people of the State. Therefore, he urged everyone to consider it as their property and take proper care of it.
He further said that the Chief Minister has approved the proposal to provide land for the new bus stand in Koraput.
Speaking on the occasion, Transport Minister Tukuni Sahu said that under the strong leadership and direction of the Chief Minister, the trend of development is continuing in all areas of the State. From the village to the city, there is a glimpse of development everywhere.
The LAccMI Bus Yojana was first started in Malkangiri. It has facility of bus service from Panchayat to Block. More than 1000 buses will run across the state. The programme has been started as part of the 5T initiative. In the programme, the Mission Shakti members have been given the responsibilities of managing the bus service.
