Nine Arrested in Pre-Poll Violence in Bhanjanagar

Bhanjanagar: At least nine persons were arrested by the police in connection with the pre-election violence in Bhanjanagar Assembly constituency under the Kandhamal Parliamentary segment.
The violence took place in Betara village under Bhanjanagar police limits on Sunday, a day before the second phase of elections in Ganjam district.

Two groups clashed in the village of Bhanjanagar block over the distribution of electoral rolls. Subash Chandra Barad, the husband of Dihapadhala sarpanch and his brother were injured along with others in the incident.

The residents of the area blocked the road for about two hours. The situation became normal following the intervention of the police.

The police arrested nine persons including key accused Kulu Bhuyan in this incident. Two cases have also been registered in Bhanjanagar P.S, as per reports.
