Odisha Awarded at National Level for Treatment of Highest Number of Birth Defect Cases among Children

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has been awarded at the national level for identification and treatment of highest number of birth defect cases among the children.

The award has been given by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare during the launch of National Birth Defect Awareness Month 2024.

“Happy to share that Odisha has been awarded at the National level for identification & treatment of highest number of birth defect cases among children by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India today at New Delhi”, the State Health and Family Welfare Department informed.

This will further motivate our health functionaries to strengthen early detection of birth defect among children and manage timely intervention for their healthy survival, the Department stated.


The theme of this National Birth Defect Awareness Month 2024 is “Breaking Barriers: inclusive support for children with birth defects”.

The birth defects awareness campaign would be focusing on the awareness about prevention, early identification and timely management.

This campaign is an effort for observing Birth defect day, which is observed on 3rd of March every year and the National Birth Defect Awareness Month is an initiative in raising awareness for all birth defects and improve the care and treatment for children.
