Odisha: Bhitarkanika National Park to Reopen for Visitors from Tomorrow

Kendrapara: The Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha’s Kendrapara district will reopen for visitors from tomorrow.

The park remained closed for the tourists since May 1 due to the breeding season of estuarine crocodiles.

All arrangements for reopening the wildlife sanctuary for tourists have been completed.

Once it reopens, the tourists will be restricted to enter with polythene bags, according to reports.

Bhitarkanika is the second Ramsar site, a wetland of international importance, in the State after Chilika. The Odisha Government’s sustained conservation measures have made the site one of the best known wildlife sanctuaries in the country.

Bhitarkanika is home to a great variety of wildlife including spotted deer, saltwater crocodiles, water monitors, pythons and Sambars. It also houses a large number of migratory birds in winter.
