Kendrapara: The annual crocodile census at Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district will begin from January 4 and will continue till January 14.
The Bhitarkanika National Park will remain out of bounds for tourists during the headcount exercise of estuarine crocodiles.
A total of 22 teams will be engaged in the crocodile census. The enumerators, assisted by trained forest staff and herpetologists including noted crocodile researcher Sudhakar Kar would cover the Bhitarkanika river system, creeks, water inlets as well as nullahs, as per reports.
As per the findings of the last year’s headcount of the reptiles, the number of crocodiles in the National Park stands at 1,768.
