Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has decided to launch a week-long special drive to check buses and other light vehicles engaged in transporting school students in the State.
The special drive will be started by the State Transport Department from April 20 and will continue till April 27 (expect Sunday).
The Transport Commissioner has issued a circular to all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) in this regard.
As per the circular, during checking, challans will be issued against vehicles plying without a valid certificate of fitness, permit, insurance, PUC certificate and tax.
Action will be taken against vehicles carrying excess students than capacity, driving without driving license and violating other provisions of the law.
Emphasis will be given on the safe transport of school students during checking, the circular added.
