Bhubaneswar: Odisha Millet Mission has succeeded in attracting the attention of the whole world and even the United Nations has also praised the programme, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday.
Odisha has become a model for other states for its Millet Mission, the CM said while adding that the State Government has decided to implement the programme in all districts of the State.
In his speech on the occasion of Mandia Divas, the Chief Minister said, “Prosperity is associated with nutrition. The Odisha Government is celebrating this day as Mandia Divas and it has been decided to celebrate the 10th of November every year as “Millet Divas”.
Mandia is a treasure of nutrition and it provides nourishment to all age groups starting from small children to the elderly, the CM said.
The small farmers, poor tribal farmers cultivate mandia. In order to improve the condition and providing nutrition to the people, Odisha Millet Mission was launched and Rs 2,800 crore will be spent for this in five years, Naveen said.
Currently, 2 lakh farmers, 82 FPOs and 1200 Mission Shakti Groups have been part of this programme. More farmers and Mission Shakti Groups will soon be included in this program, he said.
The CM also called upon all to promote Mandia as a popular food.
