Odisha Starts Procurement Of Pulses and Oilseeds

Bhubaneswar: With an aim to accelerate the farmers’ earnings and support them with right prices, the Odisha Government has started procurement of pulses and oilseeds at Minimum Support Prices. As part of this, a Mandi has been made operational for procurement of groundnut in Makanagiri district. Further arrangements have been made in all districts to open mandis in the next two or three days.

The government had earlier earmarked for procurement of 13,225 tons of Green Gram, 700 tons of Black Gram, 7,775 tons of Groundnut Pods and 675 tons of Sunflower Seeds with Minimum Support Prices as announced by the center for the Rabi Crop. The procurement process will continue till August second week by MARKFED.

The nodal agency will purchase the oilseeds and pulses from registered farmers through PACS – Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies and LAMPS – Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies, and Regulated Market Committees. All the procurement process will be undertaken in adherence with the Covid-19 guidelines.

As pr the guidelines issued by the Center, the MSP for fair average quality Moong or Green Gram will be Rs 7,196 per quintal, Biri or Black Gram – Rs 6,000 per quintal, Sunflower Seed – Rs 5,885 per quintal, and Groundnut will be Rs 5,275 per quintal. A maximum of two quintals Green Gram and Black Gram per acre will be procured from a registered farmer. For Groundnut it is six quintals per acre.
