Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police arrested a fraudster who was allegedly extorting money by posing as an RTI activist.
The fake RTI activist has been identified as Kishore Kumar Mishra, who is a resident of Berhampur and has been living in Koraput district.
A fake ID card of the I & PR Department of the Odisha Government and other incriminating documents have been recovered from his possession.
A case in this regard was initially registered at the Koraput Town Police Station under Sections 419/420/465/468/470/471/34 of the IPC in April.
Kishore has been cheating/extorting money from people by claiming to be an RTI activist, the STF said.
He has been promising issuance of a crusher license, liquor license, and transfer/posting, citing his contacts with senior officers.
Bank accounts of Kishore show a credit of more than Rs 2 crore in last 2- 3 years with lots of cash deposits, the STF stated.
