Odisha Vigilance Apprehends Chandrapur Tahasildar For Collecting Bribe

Rayagada: Odisha Vigilance Department officials have apprehended the Tahasildar of Chandrapur in Rayagada district Bichitrananda Nayak. According to sources, based on reliable inputs that Bichitrananda Nayak had collected huge bribe amount, a team of Odisha Vigilance officials intercepted him while on way from Chandrapur to Rayagada and recovered Rs.1.15 Lakh suspected illgotten cash from his possession. As he failed to satisfactorily account for the possession of such huge cash, he has been detained and is being interrogated to ascertain the source of the recovered cash. Further investigation is continuing.
According to sources, yesterday the Tahasildar, on seeing the Vigilance team, threw the bag containing the cash amounting to Rs 1,15,000 from his vehicle. The Vigilance team recovered the cash bag and seized it in presence of witnesses. Also, the Tehasildar dangerously drove the vehicle in high speed, injuring a member of the Vigilance team, and managed to escape from the spot. Later, the Vigilance team traced him in Rayagada and detained him. The Vigilance has also launched searches in the office and residential quarters of Nayak at Chandrapur and other locations.
