Bhubaneswar: Odisha anthropologist Prof. Kishor Kumar Basa has been appointed as the chairman of National Monuments Authority (NMA).
An official notification has been issued by the Department of Culture of the Government of India in this regard on Friday.
Prof. Basa, who is currently the Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada, will be the first social scientist from Odisha to hold such a prestigious position.
He was the Tagore National Fellow, Ministry of Culture, Govt of India during 2019-20.
He is also the Chairman of Indian National Confederation and Academy of Anthropologists (INCAA), the largest anthropological association in India.
Professor Basa was the Former Head, Department of Anthropology, Utkal University. He has been teaching archaeological anthropology and museum studies since 1980.
