Bhubaneswar: In the wake of detection of Omicron cases in the State, the Odisha Government may issue fresh COVID-19 guidelines for the New Year, informed an official on Wednesday.
In order to avoid huge public gatherings during the New Year celebrations, the State Government may issue fresh and stricter guidelines, said Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra after the high level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra to prepare strategies to deal with the COVID-19 situation.
The District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners have been directed to enforce COVID-19 guidelines and intensify surveillance. They have also been asked to ensure that unvaccinated people are administered with the vaccine doses at the earliest, Mishra said.
The genome sequencing of the infected persons will be intensified. The vaccination process will be ramped up for the people who have not yet been vaccinated, he added.
Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has advised the people to follow Covid appropriate behaviour such as wearing masks, social distancing and hand sanitisation.
He also advised not to visit outdoors unless it is necessary.
