Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, who in the middle of a bitter power struggle in AIADMK against Edappadi K. Palaniswami, has expelled 40 functionaries of AIADMK, including former ministers.
In a statement on Friday, OPS said that the functionaries, including former ministers, had acted against party principles and brought disrepute to the AIADMK. He called upon the party cadres to stay away from the ousted leaders.
It may be noted that after Palaniswami had expelled his two sons and 16 other supporters from the AIDMK, OPS expelled 22 leaders from the party, including Palaniswami.
Almost all senior leaders of the AIADMK, including former ministers K.P. Munuswamy, A. Dindigul, C. Sreenivasan, C. Vijayabhaskar, C.V. Shanmugham, stand expelled now.
However, with the July 11 general council meeting of AIADMK giving full control to Palaniswami, the actions of OPS will not have much impact as he has the support of only 2 per cent of the party’s general council members.
