Padampur: Counting of votes has begun amidst tight security for the Padampur by-polls today. Initially, the postal ballots will be counted before the EVM votes are counted at 8. 30 AM. The election officials have made all arrangements regarding this. A three tier security apparatus including CCTV surveillance has been set up in the Counting center. State police and Central Armed forces have been deployed. Arrangements have been made for counting of votes on 14 tables. In total, 23 rounds of counting will be held. Each counting table will have three officials including one counting supervisor, one counting assistant and one micro observer. Agents of the contesting candidates will also be there at each table. Except the Observer and the Returning Officer, mobiles are prohibited for all.
Voting for the Padampur Assembly Constituency was nesseciated due to the death of the sitting MLA Bijay Ranjan Singh Bariha. Voting was held on the 5th of this month and ten candidates are there in the fray with the Biju Janata Dal candidate Barsha Singh Bariha likely to win the by-polls.
