Bhubaneswar: Pani Panchayat has turned into a movement in Odisha. It has been possible due to the partnership, determination and cooperation of the farmer brothers and sisters, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while addressing the closing ceremony of Pani Panchayat Pakhya 2023 being held here on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister said that starting with only 700 Pani Panchayats, today Odisha has now 37,000 Pani Panchayats functioning in the State.
The Pani Panchayat, which started on 3.32 lakh hectares of land, is now able to provide water facilities to 23.46 lakh hectares of land. This is indeed a great success, said Naveen, who attended the closing ceremony of Pani Panchayat Pakhya 2023 as a chief guest.
Explaining that the Pani Panchayats are being implemented in various important medium, small and lift irrigation areas, the CM said that the Pani Panchayats will also be implemented in large irrigation project areas in the coming days.
Water is priceless. The first adverse impact of climate change will be on water and agriculture, said the CM while calling upon everyone not to waste water, but to proper use it. Conserve, Reuse and Recycle should be our goal, he added.
Water Resources Minister Tukuni Sahu, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, and Additional Chief Secretary of Water Resources Dept Anu Garg and other dignitaries attended the programme.
