Bhubaneswar: Senior Biju Janata Dal leader and Binjharpur MLA Pramila Mallik has been elected as the new Speaker of the Odisha Assembly. The six-time MLA has become the first woman speaker of Odisha Assembly. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik moved a motion in the Assembly proposing the name of Pramila Mallik to be chosen as the Speaker of the Assembly, which was seconded by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Niranjan Pujari. She was elected unanimously as both the members from opposition BJP and Congress too supported her candidature. The Chief Minister congratulated Pramila Mallik on being elected as the Speaker and appealed all members to extend their support to her to discharge her duties.
