Bhubaneswar: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Pramila Mallik will be the BJD’s Speaker candidate.
The ruling party has announced Mallik as its candidate for the ensuing election to the post of the Odisha Assembly Speaker.
The election is scheduled to be held on September 22. The monsoon session of the Assembly will commence from the same day.
The post of Speaker lies vacant after Bikram Keshari Arukha stepped down from it and joined the Cabinet.
If elected, Pramila Mallik will be the first woman Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
