Public Deplore Ganjam Tahasildar’s Highhandedness; Demand Immediate Action

Berhampur: Ganjam Tahasildar Arun Nayak is in the news for all the wrong reasons today. His highhandedness with common man has landed him in trouble. While as a public servant he is expected to be the people’s saviour, his authoritarian and autocratic behaviour with the villagers needs to be checked immediately.

In a bizarre incident today at Sipakuda Village in Rambha police station area, Arun had allegedly beaten a youth named Aranya without any reasons. In a fit of rage, the villagers gheraoed Tahasildar Arun and five other officials for more than two hours and demanded apology. The villagers of Sipakuda also demanded action against the Tahasildar for his highhandedness. After two hours of ghrao by the villagers, Rambha Police reached the spot with force to rescue the Tahasildar and rescued him. This is not the first time that the dabang officer has courted controversy. Many times in the past he had taken law into his hands and misbehaved with the villagers. His actions have been condemned by many villagers of Ganjam earlier. Some villagers have called the activities of the Tahasildar as British Gundaraj.

Earlier, there were many allegations cropped up against Arun including beating a businessman in Ganjam market, beating fisherman in Gokharkuda, beating three bikers in Huma, ordering sit-ups to a staff of Huma Petrol Pump, and action against innocent people in Phularagada village. While today’s incident has just triggered the anger among the villagers of Sipakuda, many people from other villages have called for strict action against him.

Sipakuda villagers have decided to meet the Collector in the near future and demand strict action against him for his unruly activities.
