Bhubaneswar: Odisha has recorded 15,152 deaths due to road accidents in the last three years. Minister for Commerce and Road Transport Tukuni Sahu has informed the Assembly today.
Replying to a question from BJP MLA Kusum Tete, she said during the same period, as many as 29,777 people sustained injuries due to road accidents in Odisha. In the last three years, 31,865 road accidents were reported in the state.
She also informed the Assembly that, in order to minimize fatalities in road accidents, the state government has started the initiative named Rakhshak Yojana in 2021. Under the Yojana, street hawkers, street vendors, roadside hotel workers are being trained to give immediate assistance and primary first aid to road accident victims.
For this, the government has spent an amount of Rs 50,13,819. She also informed the house that an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh has been fixed by the government for the kin of the people who die in the road accidents and Rs 50,000 is being given to the people who are injured in accidents.
