SCB Doctors Successfully Transplant Toe In Place Of Severed Right Hand Thumb

Cuttack: A team of doctors at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack have conducted a complex surgery and implanted an left index toe in place of a severed right hand thumb. The successful surgery was carried out on a person from Bhadrak district who had lost his right hand thumb after an accident in a textile mill. The surgery was conducted by a team of doctors headed by Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak, Head of Department, Plastic Surgery, SCB medical College and Hospital.

Speaking to media, Dr Nayak has said that it is first of its kind surgery in Odisha and that too at SCB Medical. The complex surgery of Sitakanta Barik took about eight hours for the eight member team. The surgery was done ten days ago and the patient is out of danger now. After this successful transplant, the patient is very much likely to do all works normally. He will also not face any health problems due to this.
An elated Sitakanta says that he never thought that he would be normal again after that devastating accident. But the doctors at the SCB medical have given him a new lease of life.
