Bhubaneswar: Taking stringent action against drunken drive, the Odisha Police and the Transport Department in association with the Commerce and Transport Department, conducted a joint special drive in the state on Saturday in which 216 persons were arrested and 138 Driving Licences were suspended.
The special drive detected 251 drivers who were driving under influence of alcohol. The Department also detained 232 vehicles during the said period.
Mostly, the drunken drivers were intercepted on the National Highways, check gates, and busy roads and subjected to breath analyzer tests. Of the total, 2600 persons whose breath was analysed, 251 were found under the influence of alcohol.
The weekend drive was conducted keeping in view the directives of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety.
