Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA) has taken cues from the infamous timed out dismissal of Sri Lankan batter Angelo Mathews during the ICC World Cup 2023 match to spread road safety awareness among the people.
An unprecedented incident took place during the ICC World Cup 2023 match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh on Monday when veteran batsman Angelo Mathews was given out without facing a single ball in the match.
Mathews became the first batsman to get timed out at the match and has scripted an unwanted record.
After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball, or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within 3 minutes of the dismissal or retirement.
On its social media handle ‘X’, the STA wrote, “Road Safety lesson from CWC 23. Don’t throw away your wicket, play a consistent long innings. Always wear ISI certified helmet & tie the strap. Also encourage pillion rider to do so. On Field or Off Field Safety First always !”.
