Subarnarekha Floodwaters Likely To Stay At Peak Level Till Tomorrow Afternoon

Bhubaneswar: The floodwaters of River Subarnarekha are likely to stay at the peak level till tomorrow afternoon and then start receding. Currently, the Subarnarekha River is flowing above the danger mark at Rajghat. By 8 pm today, the water level in the river stood at 11.03 meters as against the danger mark of 10.36 meters.

Due to incessant rains in the upper catchment areas of the river in Jharkhand, the flow of water has remained high.

Meanwhile, the condition in many low laying areas of Balasore district remains critical as flood waters have entered villages in many panchayats of Jaleswar, Basta, Bhogarai and Baliapal blocks. The district administration has taken all precautionary measures to deal with the situation. While NDRF, ODRAF and Fire Services teams are standby on the ground, officials are keeping an eye on the water level and river embankments.

According to official sources, more than 1.5 lakh people have been affected in these four blocks of Balasore. The administration has deployed f ODRAF teams, 4 NDRF teams and 35 additional Fire Services teams with power boats to rescue marooned people. The District Administration has also opened 307 relief centers.
