Bhubaneswar: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and MLA from Ranapur Surama Padhy has been elected as the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi brought a motion in the Assembly to elect Surama Padhy as the Speaker of the House unanimously which was seconded by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling. The Motion was adopted unanimously by the house. Pro tem Speaker Ranendra Pratap Swain declared Surama as the new Speaker. Surama also took charge as the Speaker of the House in the presence of all the members. She is the second woman after Pramila Mallick to assume the post of the Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
