Sambalpur: The Hirakud Dam authorities have opened three more sluice gates of the Dam today taking the total number of gates open to eight. The decision was taken in view of the rising water level in the dam in the last 24 hours. Also, the catchment area of Mahanadi is likely to get heavy rains in the next few days due to the cyclonic circulation and probable low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. By 9 AM today morning, the water level of Hirakud dam staood at 614.45 feet against the full reservoir level of 630 feet. While the inflow into the reservoir stood at 1,08,705 cusecs, the outflow was 1,16,731 cusecs.
