New Delhi: Customs officials at Trichy Airport in Tamil Nadu on Monday said that they confiscated 209 grams of 24K purity gold valued at Rs 12.50 lakhs from a passenger who had concealed it in slippers.
The passenger was detained based on profiling after arriving at Trichy Airport from Singapore on September 10.
“The gold bar was ingeniously concealed within a paste-like material hidden inside the slippers. The recovered gold was confiscated under the provisions of Section 110 of the Customs Act, and the passenger was subsequently arrested under Section 104 of the Customs Act,” the official said.
He said that the accused was presented before a local court, which remanded him to fourteen days of judicial custody.
