New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday lauded Biju Janata Dal President Naveen Patnaik for his effective disaster management strategies.
While speaking in the Rajya Sabha on the issue of Wayanad landslides, the Union Minister has highly praised Naveen Patnaik for his disaster management policies.
Amit Shah stated, “On July 23, the Government of India issued a warning to the Kerala government. Warnings were sent on July 24, July 25 and also July 26, indicating that heavy rainfall exceeding 20 cm could lead to landslides and fatalities”.
“There are many state governments who were able to secure zero casualty disaster management following the warnings sent by the Central government,” he said.
Amit Shah gave the example of response of the previous Odisha Government led by Naveen Patnaik to the early warnings sent by the Centre on cyclones.
He said when early cyclone warnings to the Odisha Government were sent during the Naveen Babu’s government, advance steps were taken by the state government. So there was no major damage in the disaster and just one person died by mistake, he said.
The then Naveen Government’s zero casualty policy brought tremendous success for Odisha in the field of disaster management.
Odisha has emerged as a role model in disaster management.
