Well-marked Low Pressure Intensifies Into Depression; State To Receive Heavy Rains In Next Two Days

Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low pressure area over central parts of North Bay of Bengal has moved northwestwards and concentrated into a Depression. It is likely to turn into a deep depression by today evening. Due to the Depression, many districts of coastal and northern districts of Odisha are receiving heavy rains. The Meteorological Department has issued warning for heavy rains for Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts. The IMD has issued Orange warning for Mayurbhanj,Keonjhar , Angul , Dhenkanal , Jajpur , Bhadrak ,Deogarh , Sambalpur , Sonepur , Boudh ,Sundargarh , Cuttack and Balasore for Tuesday.

Yesterday, capital Bhubaneswar received record levels of rains. By evening, in a span of 12 hours, Bhubaneswar received 258 mm rainfall which is a record in the last 12 years. Many areas of the capital reported water logging and traffic snarls. Water entered into houses in low laying areas such as Old Town, Bamikhal, Laxmisagar, Nayapalli, Rasulgarh etc.
