Bhubaneswar: As many as 135 tankers carrying liquid medical oxygen have been dispatched from Odisha in the last seven days. Cumulatively, the tankers carried 2517 metric tonnes of medical oxygen to eight needy states under Odisha police escort.
Of the 135 tankers, the maximum number of 42 tankers have left for Andhra Pradesh with nearly 900 tonnes of oxygen. Likewise, Telanga, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have also been sent 38, 18 and 12 tankers respectively.
While the maximum number of Oxygen tankers – 55, have been sent from Rourkela, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Angul contributed 38, 23 and 19 tankers respectively.
On the orders of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Odisha police has taken the mantle of safely loading and transporting the liquid oxygen tankers to other states. Odisha police is escorting each tanker for a hassle free transportation through a dedicated corridor. The government has also formed a special cell headed by senior Police Officer Y K Jethwa to monitor the efforts.
The steel plants situated in Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, and Rourkela are producing medical grade Oxygen which is being sent to the states.
