29% of Delhi Population Has Antibodies for COVID-19, Says Fresh Sero Survey

New Delhi: Over 29.1% people in Delhi have developed antibodies against the COVID-19, revealed the fresh serological survey conducted in the first week of August in Delhi.

The results of the second sero survey, which shows the spread of novel coronavirus, were announced by Delhi health minister Satyendra Jain on Thursday.

As many as 15,000 samples were collected across 11 districts in Delhi for the latest serological survey to assess the spread of the virus.

The prevalence of antibodies among those aged less than 18 years is 34.7 per cent, between 18-50 years is 28.5 per cent and above 50 is 31.2 per cent, the second sero survey found.

The first survey, which was conducted between June 27 and July 10, showed 23.48 per cent of population of Delhi was found to have been exposed to the coronavirus.

According to the scientists, herd immunity is when nearly 40 per cent of the population has virus antibodies, which will stay for six to eight months.

Delhi is expected to conduct two more serological surveys in the first weeks of September and October.
