5T on Ground: Ganjam Admin Adopts E-Learning Platform for Quality Education in Odia

Berhampur: Inspired by the ‘5T’ mantra of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Ganjam District Administration is all set to make a paradigm shift in taking quality education in Odia to the palm of every student of Odisha.

The Ganjam admin is all set to introduce an android based mobile app called ‘Madhu App’ to Transform the current methods of pedagogy using  Technology with coordinated Teamwork in a Time bound fashion with utmost Transparency.

“Hon’able CM’s vision to transform Odisha into a growth leader of the world through his 5T mantra can be realized if our Education System is transformed. MadhuApp is an honest effort by District Administration of Ganjam towards that vision”, said Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.

Speaking to Thenewsroom.co.in, he said,  “Education is the most powerful investment for our future. Despite huge efforts there are still many areas of improvement in our current education system. Each Student is unique, and he/she has his/her own pace of learning. Due to various reasons students are not able to fully grasp the concepts taught in the class and therefore need some help after the class”.

Hence the idea of an android based mobile app was conceived and MadhuApp was developed, he added.

In the pilot basis the content has been developed for class 5th and 6th students and  Math & Science courses have been chosen for 4 classes (5th ,6th ,7th & 8th) .
In the pilot phase The MadhuApp aims to address the drawbacks in the traditional teaching system
The traditional teaching system has the following drawbacks like,  – the teacher student ratio is very high and at many times one teacher has to take care of 100 students at given point of time. Higher, student teacher ratio makes it extremely difficult for a teacher to cater the needs of every student of the class.

Many students feel shy in letting the teacher know of his/her queries in a chapter. Besides, many of the teachers are not able to use quality TLMs (Teaching Learning Materials) to explain concepts to the students.

In some cases, a student cannot re-live the teaching session after the classroom; hence the pupil isn’t able to clear the doubts. Each student needs different time to grasp a concept. A student needs to learn the concept in his or her own pace. But traditional system doesn’t allow this. Also many of the poor students cannot afford to take extra coaching for learning.

Technology can be used to address these issues. The availability of android mobile phones and quality internet can be harnessed to provide quality content to the students of Odisha.

MadhuApp is a simple innovation over Android operating system to provide quality teaching content.
Under the guidance of the Collector, reputed teachers having excellent teaching skills and in-depth knowledge in their respective subjects are shortlisted and DEO Ganjam led the team of review committee to select the teachers and assign the chapters.

The teachers were asked to prepare interactive and engaging TLMs to help the students visualize the concept. Many Art teachers were requested to help in the preparation of these TLMs. The TLMs were reviewed by the team of experienced teachers before using them in lectures.

The teachers prepared their script for each video lecture and submitted for review by an experienced team. Once the lesson plan is approved, each teacher presented one mock lecture before the final shooting.

Professional video documentation teams were engaged for preparing the lecture videos.

A Separate team of teachers prepared questionnaires for each chapter and converted into digital format after getting approved by the review committee.

A well-coordinated plan of action is in place for the teachers to develop course content in couple of weeks’ times so that the students get the study materials at regular interval, said the district administration.

A web-based application has been developed by EmerTech for regular updating of the course content and questions.
