Odisha Govt Issues Notification Allowing 100% Exemption of MV Taxes and Registration Fees for EVs

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government today issued a notification allowing 100% exemption of Motor Vehicle taxes and registration for electric vehicles.

“The State Government in exercise of the powers conferred by clause ( ii ) of sub – section ( 1 ) of section 15 of the Odisha Motor Vehicles Taxation Act , 1975 , do hereby allow 100% exemption of Motor Vehicles taxes and also registration fees in respect of all types of Battery Operated Vehicles ( Electric Vehicles ) during the policy period , i.e. up to 31st December, 2025”, the notification issued by the State Commerce and Transport Department reads.
On the advice of NITI Aayog, the Odisha Government has published the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021 to encourage faster adoption of EVs in the State.

Under the policy guideline , the State Government has proposed to extend a lot of incentives for the purchasers , Manufacturers of EVs , Batteries and Charging stations .

Under the policy, the Government will allow 100 % exemption on Motor Vehicles taxes and Registration fees for the Policy period in order to encourage faster adoption of Electric Vehicles in the State, the notification adds.
