Mumbai: In a tragic incident, National Award winner Bollywood actress Shabana Azmi was seriously injured in a road accident car on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Saturday.
The accident occurred around 4 pm near Khalapur, about 60 kilometres from Mumbai, when the car the veteran actress was travelling in, rammed a truck from behind, according to media reports.
Her driver was also injured in the accident.
The 69-year-old actress was moved to MGM Hospital in Navi Mumbai.
Azmi was on her way to Khandala, where the family has a holiday home, according to reports.
Her husband and National Award winning poet-lyricist Javed Akhtar was in a different car at the time of the accident.
Shabana Azmi, who was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 and the National Film Award several times, is known for her roles in movies like Ankur, Arth and Mandi.
Shabana and her family had celebrated Javed Akhtar’s 75th birthday on Friday.
