Bhubaneswar: After confirmation of Avian Influenza in Poultry Breeding & Research Farm, College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, OUAT, Bhubaneswar, culling of poultry birds started from today.
Two Rapid Response Teams were engaged to cull and dispose of the poultry birds at the epicenter of the infection at OUAT, Bhubaneswar.
They had culled and disposed 798 number of birds, disposed 1215 number of eggs, 2350 kg of poultry feed and the litter material of the Poultry Breeding & Research Farm.
Further, Five Rapid Response Teams have carried out culling and disposal measures within 1 km radius of the infected site. These five teams culled and disposed 124 number of birds, 3416 number or eggs and 7 kg of poultry feed collected from the chicken shops, other establishments and door-step of the backyard poultry farmers within 1 km radius of the infected site.
In total, the seven Rapid Response teams culled and disposed 922 number of birds, disposed 4631 number of eggs, 2357 kg of poultry feed and other litter material.
The Rapid Response teams disposed the carcasses and other materials by deep burial method with application of lime and bleaching powder as disinfectants inside the Poultry farm in OUAT. The area has been disinfected with bleaching powder to check any further contamination.
Today 11 broiler chicks, 45 layer chicks, 859 layer adults and 7 adult ducks had been culled and disposed of through deep burial.
The owners of the poultry birds were paid compensation at the rate of Rs. 20 per broiler chick, Rs. 70 per broiler adult, Rs. 20 per layer chick, Rs. 90 per layer adult, Rs, 35 per duckling, Rs. 135 per adult duck, Rs. 3 per egg and Rs. 12 per kg of poultry feed.
In total, an amount of Rs. 17887 has been paid to the owners today.
No compensation has been paid towards the poultry birds and other materials of Poultry Breeding & Research Farm, College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandary, OUAT, as it’s a Government farm.
The culling and disinfection process inside OUAT poultry firm and within 1 km radius of epicenter will also continue tomorrow. In addition, intensive surveillance work will be taken up inside 1-10 km radius by the Rapid Response Teams.
