Ganjam Bus Electrocution: Death Toll Mounts to 9, Critically Injured Shifted to SCB

Berhampur: The death toll from bus electrocution incident in Ganjam district has risen to nine with the death of three more passengers, sources said.

The critically injured persons have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack from Berhampur.

Earlier, at least six passengers were killed and 25 others got injured after the bus in which they were travelling came in contact with 11 KV live electric wire near Golanthara in Ganjam district on Sunday.

The injured were admitted to MKCG medical college and hospital for treatment.
The Chikarada-bound bus coming from Jangalpadu came in contact with an 11 KV power transmission line, resulting in the casualties, sources said.

The bus was reportedly carrying people who were going to attend a wedding ceremony.

Ten ambulances and fire tenders were rushed to the spot to carry out rescue operations.

The district officials including SP have been rushed to the accident spot to take stock of situation.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief over the death of the passengers and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved families.
