Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said that cyclone ‘Amphan’, which battered West Bengal before heading towards Bangladesh, has killed at least 72 people in the state.
Out of the total 72 deaths, 15 of them were from Kolkata, Mamata said.
The Chief Minister has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for those killed in the state due to Cyclone Amphan.
The CM, who has been monitoring the situation at state secretariat Nabanna since Tuesday night, also said that she will ask PM Modi to visit the state and see the situation.
The impact of Amphan was “worse than coronavirus”, she explained earlier.
