Odisha: Two Legislators among 136 Test Positive for COVID-19 Ahead of Monsoon Session

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the Monsoon session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, two MLAs and 134 others tested positive for coronavirus, according to reports.

Two MLAs of ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) – Pramila Mallick and Debi Prasad Mishra have tested COVID-19 positive.

Besides them, 134 others including some media persons, who are supposed to attend the session, and PSOs, drives of MLAs and some Assembly staff members, have also been infected by the virus.

As many as 757 persons had undergone RT-PCR test on premises of Odisha Assembly on Saturday, of which test result of 136 found to be positive today.
The Monsoon Session of the 16th Odisha Legislative Assembly will begin from September 29 and will continue till October 7.

There will be eight business days in the Session of the Assembly and October 2 will be the holiday on account of the Gandhi Jayanti
In view of COVID-19, glass panels have been fixed for segregating seats of the legislators inside the Odisha Assembly.

Earlier, Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro had convened an all-party meeting and discussed various issued related to the conduct of the House.
