Day 17: Farmer Protests In Toll Plazas To Disrupt Highway Movement

New Delhi: The ongoing farmer protests against the Farm Bills have entered 17th day with the protesters today blocking Toll Plazas across the country. While the main protests at Singhu Border in Delhi continued to grow, nationwide highway movement is expected to be hampered near Toll Plazas today. Thousands of new protestors are heading towards Delhi to join the present farmers in blocking the Delhi-Jaipur Highway.

While the government has initiated talks with the farmers to break the impasse, it is adamant on not withdrawing the three Farm Bills which the farmers continue to demand.

Farmers heading towards Delhi had yesterday night took over the Toll Plaza near Karnal and Panipath on Delhi Chandigarh National Highway and allowed toll free movement of vehicles.

While the farmers protests continue to simmer, a group of farmers under the Bharatiya Kisan Union has moved the Supreme Court demanding withdrawal of the three controversial laws. The new laws will corporatize the farm sector and will result in exploitation of the farmers who are mostly illiterate, they pleaded.
