Tigers Are Happy in India; All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018 Out, India Has 2967 Tigers

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today released the All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018 which has got some good news for everybody. The report say India has 2967 tigers in the wild. This is a positive number for India as in the last count done in 2015 the numbers were just more than 2200.

With this, India has achieved its commitment made nine years ago at St Petersburg to double the number of tigers in the country by 2022. India has successfully achieved it four years ahead of the deadline.

Releasing the report, Prime Minister Modi has said that, India is now the safest habitats for tigers in the world.

While Madhya Pradesh dominated the scenario with 526 tigers, Karnataka has 524 big cats. Likewise Uttarakhand takes the third place with 442 tigers.

While Chhattisgarh and Mizoram saw the tiger numbers decline, the number of tigers in Odisha remained constant at 28.

The 2014 tiger census report pegged the total number of tigers in the country at 2226 while in 2010, there were 1706 tigers in India. In 2006, the tiger numbers were only 1411. This constant increase in the number of tigers shows that the conservation efforts are bearing fruits. While the total area marked for tiger conservation in the country is increasing, the number of protected areas also risen.
