Languli Mutt Demolished, Main Deity Now Facing Shree Mandir

Puri: As part of the ongoing transformation process of Puri into a World Heritage City, the district administration today completed the demolition of the famous Languli Mutt near the Shree Mandir.

The century-old monastery, which had been declared unsafe long ago, has been demolished while preserving the main deity of the Mutt.

The rented shops around the Mutt were also demolished.

Following the eviction, the famous century-old monastery of Naga cult got a new look and the main deity of the Mutt is now facing the Jagannath temple.

Prior to the demolition, the main entrance of the Mutt was closed with the setting up of shops by the private persons. As a result of which, the devotees could not get into the monastery through the main entrance.

“It was unfortunate that the main deity was concealed for commercial purpose. We will certainly preserve the main deity of the mutt and follow all the rituals”, said Puri Collector Balwant Singh.

All the shop owners evicted from the Languli Mutt would be rehabilitated in municipal and other market complexes, sources said.
