PM Modi Urges World Leaders to Unite Against Terrorism for Sake of Humanity

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today urged the world leaders to unite against terrorism for the sake of humanity.

Addressing the 74th Session of United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Indian Prime Minister said that terrorism is one of the greatest challenges for humanity and the world should unite against it.

In his 20-minute address, Modi said that the world, which is divided on terrorism, hurts the basic reason of why United Nation was formed to end all form of terrorism. He said that peace and harmony is the need of the hour as he invoked the words of Swami Vivekananda in Chicago where he urged the global community to avoid dissensions.

The Prime Minister said, “We belong to a country that has given the world Buddh (Buddha’s message of peace), not ‘Yuddh’ (war). When we raise our voice against terror, it is with seriousness and anger”.

“The lack of unanimity amongst us on the issue of terrorism dents those very principles that are the basis for the creation of the UN,” he further said.

He urged the United Nations to provide a new direction to world affairs.

It was Modi’s second address to the General Debate at the UN, five years after his maiden speech as Prime Minister in 2014.
