Bargarh: In yet another setback to Bharatiya Janata Party, former MLA of Bijepur Ashok Panigrahy who resigned from the primary membership of the saffron party yesterday has thrown his support behind BJD candidate Rita Sahu. This has come as a big blow to the saffron party which sidelined him and gave the ticket to Sanat Gadtia. Panigrahi, however, has denied joining any political party.
Speaking to media, Panigrahy said, “I had a meeting with my supporters today and it was unanimously decided to extend our support to BJD for the by-poll”.
The by-poll to Bijepur Assembly constituency will be held on October 21st. The counting of votes will be held on October 24th. Sources said that Panigrahy is likely to join BJD formally after the elections.
