Governance with Human Face

Keonjhar: It was a day to be remembered by the hundred plus inmates of Manoj Manjari Sishu Bhawan in Keonjhar when three senior most officials of the state went there to have their lunch. The officials, as part of the review initiative for the Mo Sarkar Program, went on a surprise visit to the care center and had a firsthand experience of the management of the institution.

As the time of the visit coincided with lunch time, they decided to take the meals there itself. It came as a surprise for the children staying there and their happiness can be judged from the images. The team which included Development Commissioner Suresh Mahapatra, Secretary 5-T Initiatives V K Pandian and Mission Director, NHM, Shalini Pandit interacted with the children and officials of the orphanage. Pandian also took stock of the facilities and services available at the center for the children and assured all the government help for the children.

Keonjhar Collector Ashish Thakre and SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatro were also present with the visiting team.

The transformation initiative undertaken by the Government of Odisha under the Mo Sarkar Program intends the government to be citizen centric and people friendly. The Secretary 5-T Initiatives, V K Pandian, who is spearheading the transformation process is leaving no stone unturned to bring in the desired results. Reaching out to the common people is also one of the components of the Mo Sarkar program envisioned by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The Sunday action was a surprise not only for the inmates, but for the district officials as they eat the lunch prepared for the inmates and the menu included dal rice, paneer and vegitable curry with fried papads. Sitting with the inmates and savoring the food, the officials were seen happy with the working of the institution.

Pandian always loves to lead a simple life and often takes own  food from home whenever he goes on a tour. And of course always loves to have lunch or dinner with kids in institutions or hostels. It is probably the  impact of having MDM as a kid and studying in sports hostels.

It comes just after the day before when, Pandian along with Chief Secretary and Mission Director NHM, visited a Aahaar Kendra in Boudh and took their food for lunch. The down to earth actions are seen as the best examples of reaching out to the people and governance in the hands of the people. The feedback received from the ground will be helpful in implementing and bringing in any required changes in the welfare activities of the State conceived by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
