IMD Issues Low Pressure and Heavy Rainfall Warning for Odisha during Sept 30 to Oct 3

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has issued low pressure and heavy rainfall warning for the districts of Odisha during September 30 to October 3.

“A cyclonic circulation lies over Myanmar & adjoining Eastcentral Bay of Bengal and extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over Eastcentral & adjoining Northeast Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to become well marked low pressure area and move northwestwards towards north Odisha and adjoining West Bengal coasts during subsequent 48 hours”, the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar of India Meteorological Department said.

Under influence of the above system, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall activity is very likely over districts of Odisha during September 30 to October 3, it said.

Thunderstorms with lightning activity are very likely during next 3 days over some districts of Odisha and it is advised to take safe shelter during thunderstorm activity to protect from lighting, it added.

The IMD has issued orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain from October 1.

Thunderstorm with lightning is likely at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak districts till 8.30 am on Friday.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and at one or two places in remaining districts of the state.
The intensity of rain will gradually increase thereafter with yellow warning for one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak on September 29. Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput Nabarangpur, and Rayagada.

On September 30, heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) may continue at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh and Sambalpur. Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

On October 1, the IMD has issued orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) at one or two places in Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Balangir and Angul districts. Heavy rain (7 to 11cm) may also lash one or two places in Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore.

On October 2, there is a forecast for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh districts. Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul. Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
