Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in a truly monumental way, as it organized an extensive plantation program across 88 educational institutes and 22 wealth centers within the city. This initiative reflects BMC’s dedication to fostering community engagement and enhancing the city’s green landscape.
Under the guidance and leadership of Mayor Sulochana Das and Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange, this remarkable endeavor was spearheaded by Additional Commissioner Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas.
Additional Commissioner Laxmikanta Sethi, Subhendu Sahu, along with each ward’s corporators, all zonal deputy commissioner Ravi Narayana Jethi, Priyabrata Padhi, and Purandara Nanda played pivotal roles in ensuring the success of this plantation program.
The Capital High School event witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, including MLA, Central, Ananta Narayana Jena, Mayor Sulochana Das, Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange, Additional Commissioner Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas, Regional Chief Conservator of the Forest, Dr.Sanjeet Kumar,zonal Deputy Commissioners, the BMC team, Capital High School NCC, Scout and Guide members, students, teachers, and staff.
The plantation program extended its reach to institutions such as the Regional Medical Research Centre, Gopabandhu Civil Service Academy, and the Water Management Academy. MLA, North, Susant Kumar Raut, actively participated in the 7th Battalion plantation drive.
Furthermore, the Integrated Centre for Agriculture and Research hosted a segment of the program, which saw the participation of Deputy Mayor Manjulata Kanhara. A total of 3,500 plantations were carried out, encompassing 23 different types of tree saplings.
Mayor Sulochana Das expressed her vision, emphasizing that if every individual plants and nurtures a tree, Bhubaneswar can evolve into a cleaner and greener city, benefiting future generations.
Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange emphasized the importance of this program in raising awareness among students, thereby contributing to a pollution-free future.
Citizens also actively joined in this Green Movement by planting trees and sharing their participation on the SAFA App. Their enthusiastic involvement underscores the collective commitment to making Bhubaneswar a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city.
