Angul Court Gives Death Sentence to Youth for Rape and Murder of Minor

Angul: A special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court here today gave death sentence to a youth convicted for rape and murder of a minor.

The Court gave the sentence in a fast track trial of the case for kidnapping, rape and murder of the 12 year old girl from Kangula village in Angul district.

The accused Anama Dehury, a resident of same village, was held guilt of raping and killing a 12-year-old girl of the same village by the Additional district sessions judge and special POCSO judge.

The accused took the minor girl from the roadside on July 20, 2019 and raped her. Later, he killed the girl and dumped her body in a drain.

The special POCSO judge pronounced the judgment after taking statements of 36 witnesses, sources said.

This is the first case in Angul and second in Odisha, where death sentence has been pronounced under the POCSO Act.

When gory tales of sexual offences against minor girls are rocking the collective conscience of the society for quite some time, this judgment of Special POCSO Court, Angul is a fresh reassurance to the rule of law for the society in general and Odisha Police in particular.
