Bhubaneswar: The annual bird census started today at different wildlife ranges and water bodies across Odisha.
The bird count will be conducted for one day in all forest divisions and water bodies except at Chilika lake, Bhitarkanika national park and Hirakud reservoir, according to the Forest Department.
Around 25 teams comprising over 1000 officials have been engaged in bird census at different places including Satkosia Wildlife Division and Mahanadi River system.
The counting of birds will be held at Chilika Lake tomorrow. The bird census is scheduled to begin at Bhitarkanika and Hirakud on January 6.
The fishing will be banned in Mahanadi River system during the period. Entry of tourists into Satkosia will also be restricted for first two weeks during census, said a forest official.
