As Onion Prices Rise Trolls In Social Media Keep Netizens Active

New Delhi: At a time when the political developments of Maharashtra kept everybody anxious for more than two weeks, some other issues that affected the common man were out of the sight. With the winter taking off and falling temperatures, the prices of Onion kept on rising and today they have hit a century. In almost all parts of the country onion prices have breached the hundred mark and become the issue of household debate.

Due to hike in wholesale prices in major onion producing states retail prices are also high. While especially the Northern and Eastern Indian states are most affected by surge in onion prices, there are some stray incidents that have amused the people. The social media is also agog with satires and jokes on how onions have become the most valued product to the common man.

A bizarre incident was witnessed in Midnapore district of West Bengal where burglars decamped with sacks of Onion from a small shop but did not touch the cash box which dad money. The burglars had the only intension to take away the Onion but they also took away some ginger and garlic also with them.

The incident has become the talk of the town and the social media is amused. In September also there was an incident in Patna where thieves decamped with onion worth 8 Lakh rupees.

The social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Video Sharing App Tik Tok are full of jokes with stories on how onions have impacted their lives. While some netizens calling the theft of Onion and leaving the cash behind as humanity, others are pleading for banks to provide soft loans to people to buy Onions.
