Berhampur Police Bust Online IPL Betting Racket; Five Arrested, Over Rs 4.5 Lakh Cash Seized

Berhampur: Berhampur Police busted a major online IPL betting racket and arrested five persons including the kingpin in this connected.

The arrested gamblers have been identified as Dipu Nahak (32), Kittu Rout (36), Aswini Kumar Patro (31), Prasanta Kumar Sahu (38) and Gopinath Maharana (28). All are from Ganjam district.

The police also seized cash worth Rs 4,56, 900, Nine mobile phones, one car and gold ornaments weighing 203.96 grams from the possession of the accused.

Acting on credible information regarding IPL online betting organized by prime accused Dipu Nahak, a team of Gosaninuagaon Police Station on the evening of May 15 detected five persons involved in online betting inside a car using their respective cell phones.

They were found engaged in betting through different illegal websites. Prime accused Dipu Nahak has conspired with other accused persons and created distribution links purchasing them from the Stockiest of outside since last 5 years. He has created user ID and Password on those websites with a view to facilitate IPL betting online.

Dipu has induced a numbers of sellers and retailers, assigning them with various user IDs and Passwords in those websites with a view to facilitate and organize betting online and thereby amassed huge amount of money. He has also induced the people to bet money in online IPL betting and collects commission.

The accused persons were arrested on Monday and being forwarded to court today. The investigation of the case is in progress, informed Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M.
